That's right. The dictionary also gives: how frequently.

There is something else you should know about often and times.
How often means how many times within a certain limit.
Example:
Q. How often do you go to the movies?
A. I go about twice a month.
The exact time is not always stated. Some other answers:
once in a while
every so often
every now and then
pretty often

How many times does not require a time limit, although one can be added.
Example:
Q. How many times have you been to Europe?
A. I've been there twice.
or: I went once right after college and again last year.

Q. How many times have you seen a dentist in the past year?
A. Just twice.
