Dear teachers,

1) Does a photographer use a telephoto lens for his camera when taking photos at a big distance?

2) Do we need capital letters here?
"However, by this date he had become one of the three leading members of a company of actors called the Lord Chamberlain’s men."

3) Is the definite article necessary here?
"This company was under the protection of the Lord Chamberlain, a powerful nobleman and an official at the Queen’s court."

4) Should there be an article before "legend" here?
"According to legend he was apprenticed to a butcher."

Thank you for your help.

Hello Hela, how are you?

1. Not "big" – can you think of an adjective with a very similar meaning?

2. I would myself only capitalise "men", in a reference of this kind.

3. Yes; "The Lord Chamberlain" is a compound title.

4. No article; "according to legend" is a set phrase.

Best wishes,

MrP

Good morning, Mr P :)

I'm fine, thanks; however, always struggling with English structures!

1) Does a photographer use a telephoto lens for his camera when taking photos at a LONG distance?

3) Would you capitalise the article here? because part of the title?
"This company was under the protection of the Lord Chamberlain, a powerful nobleman and an official at the Queen’s court."

All the very best,
Hela

PS: Would you know of a reliable site where I can HEAR British pronunciation (RP) by typing the words I need?
How do you pronounce the name of Shakespeare's wife "Anne HATHAWAY" and his best friend's "John DAVENANT", please?
