How do you colloquially call an inedible, not tasty or bad food by using a noun. How would you describe such food in a normal informal conversation?
thanks

It is more likely that you would use an adjective to describe the food. Depending on the texture of the food, you might call it "goo" or "cardboard." If it has no taste, the adjective is "bland." Here's (http://www.cartoonstock.com/newscartoons/cartoonists/jko/lowres/jkon62l.jpg) a cartoon that gives another name. :)
When I read the question, I thought of it in another way...
In the more specific situation that the food has been around too long so it is beginning to smell and taste bad, you say that the food is spoiled. When some particular foods, especially fats, are in that state, you describe them as rancid. Milk that is too old is sour or has turned. Foods like bread and cake that are old enough not to taste good but are not really spoiled or moldy are called stale.

I know what you are alluding to but i mean an informal general expression for bad food (may be of lower quality) as you speak between friends. Do you say "its trash"? Or "its gross"? It can be a slang word, too...
thanks for that

Trash and gross would work. Depending on the texture, maybe these nouns: "It's rubber," "It tastes like baby Pablum," "This is nothing but slop." Adjectives: revolting, disgusting. If you have heard some other slang, mention it and we'll check it out.
