Hello,
Please, do I need to capitalize dad, mom, when I speak about someone’s parents, not mine? Which is correct?
1. His dad is an architect.
2. His Dad is an architect.

Thank you.

Capitalize when you are using it as a name:
Did you ask Dad if you could have the car keys?
Don't capitalize where you would not capitalize father or mother.
His dad is an architect.

Thanks, Rusty.
So if we have a determiner , we do not capitalize. Can we omit a determiner sometimes (I mean speaking of someone's parents)?
A teacher to a pupil - Lily, please tell Mom I'd like to see her.

The teacher is taking on the persona of the child/student, speaking as the child would to his/her mother. In an informal setting, this is OK.
