One of my students asked me a question whether the two following sentences are identical in the meaning:

1. You stupidly answered his questions.

2. You answered his questions stupidly.

I consider 1 as 'You are stupid to answer his questions.', and 2 as 'You answered his questions in a stupid way'. But, I am not sure.

Will you please give me your judgement?

I agree with the distinction that you proposed. That is the way I would interpret the two sentences.
