1) You have to know the reason why she smart is because she always picks other people's brains.
2) You have to know the reason why she smart is that she always picks other people's brains.
I am used to using the second sentence but today I found the first sentence in which the word 'because' was used. I am wondered which one is right , and if the sentence 1) is right, and what is the difference between them is?

Many thanks to those who have helped me and would help me.

Hello! I think (but I'm not sure) that the first sentebce is correct. I would say like that way. And I don't see big differense between them.

Years ago when I was in school in the US, they taught us (as native English speakers) that "because" always began adverbial clauses, and to use it as in sentence 1 to begin a noun clause was incorrect. Some people still believe this, but you often hear "the reason is because …" anyway.

The Merriam-Webster dictionary certainly allows this use with no problem, and it shows an example of this use of "because" by E.B. White, the co-author of a respected book on English style and usage.
