Hello,

What will you call something personal and uncomfortable that you don’t really want to talk about? It’s neither like a scar that hurts nor a cultural taboo. For example, if a divorced person feels bad about his former marriage and uncomfortable when people ask about it, what words or expressions will we use to describe the role his former marriage plays in his mind?

Thank you for your kind suggestions.:)

This is a sore/delicate/touchy point/issue with him.

hot-potato (informal) an issue that is awkward or embarrassing to deal with

red herring an issue that is a diversion from the point

Thank you guys very much. Those words really help!:p

I have an extended question. What are other expressions referring to "that's exactly what I want?"

Thank you again.

Here are only a few. We could probably list a hundred. That's it.
That's right.
That's the ticket.
That's just the thing.
That'll do it.
I'll leave it to others to add to the list.

A few more:
Perfect!
Of course.
Yes!
I especially like OddThomas's "That's the ticket." That was one of my grandmother's frequent comments, and I recall being confused by the metaphorical statement when I was 3 or 4 years old; I kept wondering where this "ticket" that I couldn't see really was.

Another: "a no-go area".
