Artanam, grammar is the system of rules for how to make words into sentences. Because of grammar, you can understand what you are reading. Without grammar, write understand you what could nothing of I.

Did that last clause make sense? No? It did not make sense because it did not follow any rules of grammar. So it is not correct to say that English can work without grammar.

If you learn enough grammar to put words into the right order some of the time, but not all of the time, you will not sound smart--you will sound like a child. (Me want cookie.) If you want to be an adult who sounds like a child, then just a little grammar is all you need.

If you want to be an adult speaker of English who sounds like an adult speaker of your own language, you must master English grammar just as well as you have mastered the grammar of your native language. That takes study, of course. I encourage you to put in the effort.

By the way, the nonsense clause above should read you could understand nothing of what I write.

Dear friends,

I totally agree with OddThomas about what he said in his email.

If you are learning any language, then you have to know its rules to enable you construct a good sentences and clauses. Also more importantly, make yourself comprehensible.

That's why we are learning or studying grammar books all over the stages of learning the language because I personally believe that we need grammar to learn the language, and it does not make any sense putting away the grammar or structure of a language.

Best of luck to all

With regards,
Wardaa

thank you Odd Thomas, and Wardaa for your answer... :)

well, now i understand why we must learn grammar,

"learning rules are difficult but that because rules are very important"

however, I must take it no matter I like it or not.

thanks guys

Well Guys !! Agreed that grammar is important ; but I think it is the usage that matters most .It is quite invariable that the rules and system used for the English Language during the 18th century are no more there and followign the same principle what we are using today might as well be obsolete after a century or so . That was too far indeed but of recent I think it's the usage and the various trends followed around the globe . But then what if we share our thoughts and the way we use this highly principled language. Perhaps that is why I have signed in here .....Enjoy Guys ..let's learn together

Why this paradox in usage of singular/plural verb in th following 2 sentences

3 men are enough for doing this job
Three hours is enough for him to do the job.
