Dear freind,

In my point of view, to gain confidence is a matter of time and practice. I mean how much you use the language to speak up with others.

It's basically the idea of being familiar with something. For example, if you're well skilled in driving, then you don't have any problem driving any car because you were practicing it all the time and with time you gained this confidence and experience. It is same to the language.

Ferdie, you may have to investigate whether people you meet every day speak English and you don't know it yet. You might find that your librarian, an instructor, the bookstore clerk, the grocer, or your neighbor speaks English. You won't know this unless you get to know them better. Mention that you are learning English to everybody you talk to and someone will answer that they, too, speak English. Surprise! You have found a new practice buddy. Keep asking, and you will have two, three, or many more people to practice with. Good luck. :)

To gain confidence, I'd have to say you can't be afraid to make mistakes, because it's going to happen and it can only make you better. When talking to somebody who is a native English speaker, they will be more than patient and happy to help you as long as you try. I found this out when I traveled to France and was about the same at French as you are now at English. It was hard at first, but I learned a lot from my mistakes. Be patient, do your best, and it'll come. And, if it helps any, you are able to write English very well so I'm sure your speaking is just as good. Good luck! :)

Dear Xiakgoi,

It is great to bring your own experience and share it with us. I was quite glad because as you know we're all learning second language, and it ecourages us as a learners to learn from how others learn. Keep it on.

With regards,
Wardaa

Record yourself when you speak English. After you are finished recording, play it back and see what you sound like. If you are not clear, then you can simply try again. This is a great way to see how others hear you
