What does it mean in the following context? Survived? or "the name matches"?

Using "spelling alphabet" to communicate the patient's name.
Telephone conversation in a noisy operating room; The doctor cannot catch the name of the patient. It might be Atkins, Adkins or Adams. Suddenly he hears :"The patient is Alpha-Delta- Kilo- India-November-Sierra". Armed with the correct information the doctor places the appropriate call to the blood bank. Mr Adkins does fine.

Not clear if:

fine during the surgery
or
survived and fine later, post-surgery, most probable

Not about matching the tags: they got the right blood type for him, after they got his right name, and he was saved.

Do is a general purpose word that covers a wide range of actions, including achieving certain outcomes. When Mr. Adkins becomes the subject of do, we surmise that it is he who has a successful outcome, not the surgery, and not the blood. When all this is coupled with the staccato, minimalist style of writing, in which brevity is everything, the (inescapable) conclusion is that he survives everything: he does fine.
