Is the only difference between these 2 words is the " d" sound?
or are they pronounced the same way?

Yes, the extra "d" is read as either [d] or [t] according to M-W Unabridged.

I found the audio from on-line dictionaries somewhat confusing. In some the /d/ or /t/ was audible (breadth). Some seemed to drop the consonant and sound just like breath. One sounded to me like brek. In my experience, the /d/ has always been sounded, and perhaps sometimes /t/.

Yes, breadth is definitely different from breath (as I hear myself).
