Dear teachers,

I'd preciate it very much if you would help me with this sentence.

Almost at the first glance, the attention is arrested by the break in the north wall, slightly to the right of where we stand, which makes a wide lateral gorge running at right angles to the main course of the river. This is Bright Angel Gorge, showing the course of Bright Angel Creek, which flows between its lower walls. [ source here (http://www.grand-canyon-vacation-information.com/grand-canyon-geology.html) ]

It is hard for me to form a clear picture it describes, and I don't understand the words in bold.
1. What does "break" mean here?
2. Does "slightly to the right" mean the wall of the gorge slants to the right?
3. Could you please tell me about the relationships between Bright Angel Gorge, Bright Angel Creek and the Colorado river? <Bright Angel Creek runs in Bright Angel Gorge and then runs into Colorado river. Am I right? >

Many many thanks in advance.

As the author stood in the gorge, he had a wall on his left and and on his right. Turning to face one wall, he saw a large divide in the wall he was facing. This split he called a break. It ran vertically from the floor of the gorge to the rim and formed a giant V. The break was not directly in front of him, but was further away on the right. It was slightly to the right.

Yes, you are right. Bright Angel Creek runs in Bright Angel Gorge and then runs into Colorado river.
