1 Do you know which the most expensive book is?

2 Do you know which is the most crowded city ?

1 is correct, but 2 is wrong.

Am I right?

Wrong on the 2nd: it is correct. In published books:

90 on "do you know which is the most"

Hello,

As far as I know, the word order in reported questions with who/what/which+be can be either direct or indirect.
Yes, I’ve found it – M.Swan, Practical English Usage, p.253:
When who/what/which+be ask for a subject, two word orders are possible.
Which is my seat?
She wondered which was her seat.
She wondered which her seat was.
This does not happen when who/what/which asks for a complement.
What’s the time?
She asked what the time was.

Good examples, Lucretia.
