Dear All,

Is the means to not and not is correct in this kind of usage?

To go without something means to not have something that you usually have, or not use something that you usually use.

It's a split infinitive, but this doesn't make it ungrammatical. Some prefer no words between the particle 'to' and the verb, while others don't mind this.

To please all, move to after 'not':

To go without something means not to have something that you usually have, or not to use something that you usually use.
