Are they both correct?
Thank you

Prone to + gerund/infinitive/noun are all acceptable.
Prone to believing rumors.
Prone to forget names.
Prone to anxiety.

I see to as a preposition here, not a particle helping form an infintive.

What part of speech would you call "forget"?

Unsure what sentence I was reading... I don't think it is a preposition.
However, I'm still wondering why is a gerund able to follow the to used before an infinitive.

Any thoughts on this?

Hello Eddie88,
However, I'm still wondering why is a gerund able to follow the to used before an infinitive.
Gerund follows the preposition to, not the particle to.
You can find some other examples:
She is inclined to overreact. - particle
She is inclined to overreacting. - preposition
These are off my head, I hope they are correct.

Hi there:
That was my initial thought.
But what I'm wondering is this:
So does the to change part of speech, depending on the word that follows?
Prone to believing rumors. It is a preposition here.
Prone to forget names. It is a particle here.
Prone to anxiety. It is a preposition here.

Prone to believing rumors. It is a preposition here.
Prone to forget names. It is a particle here.
Prone to anxiety. It is a preposition here.
Prone to believing rumors. To is a preposition here because believing is a gerund.
(Somebody is) prone to forget names. To is a particle here because to forget names is an infinitive phrase.
- prone to forget names = predicate complement
- prone = adjective
-to forget names = infinitive phrase acting as an adverb to modify the adjective, prone.
Prone to anxiety. To is a preposition here because anxiety is a noun.

I'd like to blame this question of mine on a simple brain fart, if you let me. I saw prone to as idiomatic, so 'to' couldnt' change part of speech no matter what word followed.
Thanks for showing me that my brain is useless past midnight. :)
