Hi all,

Apologies in advance in case this thread is in the wrong section...

Whenever I run into a guide or tutorial oftentimes it is called '101'
I tried to find the origin of this name, but failed to do so. That is why I post my question here.

Where does 101 come from? What is it referring to?

Many thanks!!

Comes from college course descriptions. The first course level is 100, second level is 200, etc.

Aha! Many thanks! Finally the mystery got unravelled :)

I assume 101 stands for chapter 1 of level 100, right?

There is an article on the origin of the course numbering system here. (http://www.slate.com/id/2149082/)The term "101" has been picked up and used for just about anything basic, elementary or beginner related.
