Depends. Meet with is typically used to refer to people gathering together to discuss some sort of business. I doubt that's what you want with your friend. Probably you simply want him to arrive at the same place as you so you can share some activity.

I'm just trying to convice my friend to meet me. (for lunch, a movie, etc.)
