Hi,
He was bullied by the bad others.
Is it correct to place an adjective in front of "others"?
Thanks

This one doesn't work, not in published books:
0 on "by the bad others"
http://books.google.com/books?q=%22by+the+bad+others%22&btnG=Search+Books
Try:
by the bad ones
However, this works:
169 on "the bad others"
http://books.google.com/books?lr=&q=%22the+bad+others%22&sa=N&start=60
which is a bit strange, but this is how I feel too.

If you look closely at the examples you will find many are a part of two sentences. "....bad. Others...."
Some have an ellipsis: "The good will please some, the bad others.." (the bad will please others...}
"He was bullied by the bad others."
"the bad others" does not sound natural.
"He was bullied by the bad other (plural noun)"
"He was bullied by the other bad (plural noun)"
Neither of the about works. Both sentences include him in the group of the bad (plural noun).

Boboy, you can check word collocation (whether or not they go together) on the British National Corpus website here. (http://www.natcorp.ox.ac.uk/)There are no examples of bad others. The only examples I found were numbers (two others, five others, etc.), many others, all others, few others. I found no adjectives in the 150 that I checked. I am sure there are some words that collocate with others, for example, significant others.
