Hi,

I am going to take the TOEFL and GRE exams soon, and I've chosen both to be the Computer Based Test. I haven't received the material that EPS sends yet, but I have been studying by the book: "Cambridge Preparation for the TOEFL Test" by Jolene Gear and Robert Gear, 1996. This book has the same style as the paper based test. I would like to know if I am having a reasonable preparation for the Computer Based Test studying by this book. What are the advantages or disadvantages to take the Computer Based Test? I appreciate all input.

Thanks.

The kinds of tasks you have to do are different on the paper based and the computer based test. Preparing for one will not necessarily help you present the other.
It would be a good idea to get some practice with the Computer Based Test, otherwise you will find it very different and you might have problems with it.
The same book you are working with has a third edition that is for the Computer Based Test.

Good luck.

Thank you for the advice DS, I have already downloaded the "TOEFL POWERPREP" at http://www.toefl.org/testprep/prepdown.html and I liked pretty much the Computer Based Test. It is very pratical and the instructions are easy to understand.

Hi, if you take the computer based TOEFL you will achieve your results 4 weeks later, but if you take the paper based test you have to wait for about 6 to 7 weeks for your results. I do not really know why but I´ve heard its harder for them to correct or read through handwritten tests...
