The parents of an RCMP officer killed by a speeding car said Friday the two-year sentence handed out to the driver responsible doesn't compare to the life sentence they face without their only child.

THE PARENTS OF AN RCMP OFFICER KILLED BY A SPEEDING CAR SAID FRIDAY (This is a dependent clause)

THE TWO-YEAR SENTENCE HANDED OUT TO THE DRIVER REPONSIBLE DOESN'T COMPARE TO THE LIFE SENTENCE (This is an Indpendent clause)

THEY FACE WITHOUT THEIR ONLY CHILD (This a dependent clause)

Questions:- Is this a COMPLEX sentence ? The verbs KILLED and HANDED are used as adjectives?

Thank you very much.

(First, let me say that I am no authority on parsing sentences. I'll do my best. Perhaps there are others who will check this.
The main clause is: parents said ___what they said____.
The clause beginning "the two-year sentence" is a dependent clause. "..that" is missing, but it is the same as "...said that the two-year sentence...etc.
"that" is also missing in "they face without their only child." It is a dependent clause.
Killed and handed are adjectives.
I'd say the sentence is complex, though I haven't looked up the rules).
