I don't understand these:"something's gotta give" and "as good as it gets"
> "something's gotta give" -- [="Something has got to give."] You generally say this in a situation where there is stress or tension, opposing viewpoints. It means, "Things can't stay this way; something will change.


> "as good as it gets" -- This applies to the current situation. It means that things will not/cannot/could not be better. It is used in 2 different ways. When everything seems good, you say, "This is as good as it gets," to comment on how fine the situation is. Sometimes, however, it is used in a pessimistic sense. Things do not seem good at all, but you think they will get even worse, so you say something like, "You may not be happy now, but this is as good as it gets."
