Hi all,

I was listening to an interview with a Professinal Golf Association staffer on TV the other day, and heard him use the word, "kata". The phrase in which he employed this word was something like this:

Instead of just shooting the scenes in which the players perform within a kata, .....

I did not know this Japanese origin word was being used in the States, but my question is how familiar this word is to the English speaking peole. Does every English speaking person know this word? Thank you very much in advance.

I have never heard "kata" or "within a kata." There are many references on the Web, all relating to a pattern of movement such as in Japanese martial arts, judo, karate, etc. I expect that people who practice these arts in the United States are familiar with the term, but I don't think it has wide application otherwise.
