Hi everybody,

Please explain the meaning of these sentence; these are from the October Sky.

1) " But what I think doesn't mean a hill of beans to you."
What is the meaning of a hill of beans ? Is this a/an idiomatic expression?

2) I felt like he handed me a big sackful of rocks.
What's the meaning of rock here? Is this an example of metophor?

Thank you.

1) " But what I think doesn't mean a hill of beans to you."
What is the meaning of a hill of beans? (It means that something is not worth much).
Is this a/an idiomatic expression? (It's a very common expression).

2) I felt like he handed me a big sackful of rocks.
What's the meaning of rock here? Is this an example of metophor?
(I have not heard this, but I can imagine that it could mean you felt like he had put a burden or great deal of responsibility onto you. Or, it could mean that he gave you something worthless. Maybe somebody else has an idea).
