Dear Pete (or Rusty):

I think in these sentences "it" is an impersonal pronoun. Am I right?

1. How goes [it] with you?
2. [It]'s getting serious.
3. [It]'s your turn.
4. [It]'s tickling my tonsils.
5. [It] hurts so badly.
6. Wow! [It]'s wonderful.
7. We have been to Russia, and [it] was interesting.

Thank you very much.
Best regards.

Here are my thoughts on the individual sentences:

1. How goes with you? - impersonal
2. [It]'s getting serious. - impersonal
3. [It]'s your turn. - impersonal
4. [It]'s tickling my tonsils. - impersonal
5. [It] hurts so badly. - probably impersonal; if you had just mentioned a headache or a sore arm, those terms might serve as specific antecedents for [i]it.
6. Wow! 's wonderful. Here again it depends on whether there is an earlier antecedent. Usually you would have something specific in mind that is wonderful when you say this.
7. We have been to Russia, and [it] was interesting. - I'd say that here you might mean that Russia was interesting or you might mean the trip was interesting, but it seems that you do have an antecedent in mind. This seems different from a classical impersonal [i]it like the one in "It's snowing."
