If students are selected to enter the final round of a compeition, how should we say?

(1) Students are selected to enter the final of the ABC Competition.
or
(2) Students are selected to enter the finals of the ABC Competition.

(2) Students are selected to enter the finals of the ABC Competition.
(The finals usually means several sets of competition until only two competitors/competing teams remain. This final game will probably be called the final round.
