The word witch can be used either for women only or for people of both sexes, depending on context. It seems that in the past, witch was used to describe both men and women using magic, especially for evil purposes. These days, witch is used for both men and women only in special contexts, most often to speak of people who practice the Wiccan religion.
It is far more common today to hear witch used only for women who practice magic, especially for evil purposes. When witch is used this way, people seem to use warlock to refer to the male counterpart.
