We are an spanish couple and we have a sister named Gala.
She is 1 year old and we would like to initiate her English learning as soon as possible.
Could anybody help us in this searching?.
Is too early for her?.
Do anybody know any tools for this?.
Thanks a lot.

It is never too young to expose a child to foreign languages. In fact, the sooner, the better.

Without knowing where you live, my suggestion is to find a native English speaker in your area and invite him/her to spend some time with your (did you mean "daughter?") baby.

It is very common in the U.S. for English speaking couples (when both work) to find Spanish-speaking nannies to take care of their children and teach them Spanish.

Of course, this plan may not be feasible for you.

It is a bad idea for you as parents to speak both Spanish and English, since the baby will easily get confused. And, once the baby understands that either language will do, she will not want to speak two. The only way for her to naturally (outside a classroom, that is) learn English is for her to realize that she must learn English to communicate. So, if one of you speaks English rather well, you could decide for one parent to speak only English to the baby, and the other parent to speak only Spanish.

Good luck. Even if you have to wait for your child to start school before she learns English, remember that the more exposure she has now, the easier it will be for her to pick it up in a classroom later.

You have made a good suggestion re: one parent speaking only spanish and the other speaking English - as an aid to the child learning both languages.

I am Scottish and my wife is Chinese Malaysian - she speaks Malay, English, Cantonese, Mandarin, Tamil and two other Chinese dialects. I only speak English.

As we wanted our son to learn Chinese our first thought was to hire a Chinese speaking child minder - but as we live in Scotland we could not locate one.

The other option - which I suggested was for my wife only to speak to our son in Chinese - but she found this too hard - as she thinks in English.

Our third option was to take him to Chinese classes - which we tried. He found it difficult and did not want to continue. He is now 7 and although he understand Chinese used at home - he does not speak it - as my wife mostly uses English.

I would STRONGLY suggest that one parent speaks one language and the other speaks the other.
