Dear teacher
Thank you very much for your suggestions, but I was able to do just some sents, not all of them. So,can you give me the final keys now?
Fill in the blank with suitable word or group of words:
1. If only __________ your offer of help! I found arranging the party on my own very difficult. I also give up this!
2. You'd better immediately start to avoid the traffic jam.
3. There's no point in trying to explain this to her. She's __________ understanding. I don't know the structure with Verb-ing like this
4. She is not used to having her authority questioned.
5. Everything that might go wrong did go wrong. Can you explain the meaning of this proverb to me?
6. They were talking so loudly that she could not help overhearing what they said.
7. It never came to me that he could be the a theft.
thank you once again!
OK, here's what comes to mind for me. With sentences like this, there is often more than one reasonable answer.
1. If only <u>I had received</u> your offer of help! I found arranging the party on my own very difficult. I also give up this!
2. You'd better immediately start to avoid the traffic jam.
3. There's no point in trying to explain this to her. She's <u>incapable of</u> understanding. I don't know the structure with Verb-ing like this
4. She is not used to having her authority questioned. [OK.]
5. Everything that might go wrong did go wrong. Can you explain the meaning of this proverb to me? [Yours makes sense; you usually hear it with could. Sometimes when you try to do something, a number of accidents happen. If enough things like that happen, this is what you say. Example: At a wedding, the groom came late; the best man lost the ring. The bride stumbled on her long dress. Everything that could go wrong did go wrong.
6. They were talking so loudly that she could not help overhearing what they said. [OK.]
7. It never came to me that he could be the <strike>a theft</strike> thief. [OK. "Occurred to" would be a little more explicit in this context.]
