- Why do we use the and are ?
2) What time do you often leave for work ?
- Can I use usually go to work instead of using often leave for work ?
Thanks a lot in advance.

(Use "are" because "the Chinese" means "the Chinese people," which is a plural subject. Nationality words such as, Chinese, English, French, American, Japanese, etc. are adjectives when no article is used. Example: Chinese food, English muffin, French toast, American cheese, etc. When some nationality words are preceded by "the" the meaning is "all the people." Example: The French like wine = the French people like wine.
The Chinese are industrious = the Chinese people, generally, are industrious. Other nationalities in this category are the Veitnamese, the Japanese and the Spanish. Some nationality words must be plural when "the" precedes. Example: The Americans, the Canadians, the Germans, the Australians, the Italians).
2) What time do you often leave for work ?
- Can I use usually go to work instead of using often leave for work ?
What time do you usually go to/leave for work? is natural. This sentence makes more sense than "What time to you often go to/leavefor work?)
