Hi,
Would you please tell me if these sentences are correct and natural?
1. The fish are found in/on the south/southern coast of California.
2-1. The fish live in/on the south/southern coast of California.
2-2. The fish live in/on the coast of south/southern California.
2-3. The fish live in/on the south/southern California coast.

The ones with "southern" all sound natural to me.

I don't think the ones with "south" sound right, but I don't live there, so I'm not 100% sure.

(To me, the south coast of a place would be a coast along its south border. That means it would run more or less west to east. With that distinction, California would not have a "south coast". A coast in the southern part of California would be a southern coast. I'm not sure that others make these same distinctions.)
