pete, when we use GO followed by an infinite, is it really spoken english ??
and there are somthing i don't get the grasp of,
plz correct if there is any error,
Mary, lets go find that sketchbook i bought yesterday
Mary goes find a sketchbook at the bottom of the cabinet.
i know the second one soulds a bit odd, but that is not my point, i mean, when GOES , find should be with no S , right ??
another one here
MAry went find a ....................
when past tense is used, go should stay present , right ?
thanks in advance
Here's my two cents' worth.
When we use the form [go + verb] instead of [go to/and verb], we consider it as one action, not two separate two actions. That is, we think it acts as, kind of, a compound verb, but strictly it is not a compound verb.
In a word, the forms "[goes verb], [went verb], and [gone verb]" sound very queer and awkward, so we don't use those but [go verb].

Please feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.
Here's another way to say what is going on here:
When a verb follows a form of "go", the following verb is an infinitive. When the form of "go" is an infinitive, the following verb is almost always a bare infinitive, i.e. it doesn't have "to":
- I want to go see ____
When the form of go is some other word like "goes" or "went", the infinitive is preceded by "to":
- She went to see ___
When the word "go" is used but it isn't an infinitive, either form of infinitive may follow it:
- We go see ____
- We go to see ____

see what Ann said, it is odd to use
GOES find
WENT find
HAVE GONE find
but we certainly use GO find , right ??
by what Peter just said,
we do use GO find
but we DON'T USE, probably becasue it is wrong
we don't use
GOES find
WENT find
OR
HAVE GONE find
am i getting it right or am i just cluttering up ??
