Hello,

Could anyone please tell me which is correct in the following sentence?

A) If their children can suffer from a / an hereditary disease...

Would it be possible to use "one" instead of a / an?

B) If their children can suffer from one hereditary disease...

Thanks a lot! :)

A) If their children can suffer from a <strike>/ an</strike> hereditary disease...

I think this is what you want.

It may sound better to replace "a" with another expression like

"If their children can suffer from such a painful hereditary disease as this..." or

"If their children can suffer from this kind of hereditary disease..."

Do not use "one" unless you are emphasizing the number: "If their children can suffer from one hereditary disease, then they can suffer from two."

Could anyone please tell me which is correct in the following sentence?

A) If their children can suffer from a / an hereditary disease...
(When the h at the beginning of a word is aspirated (pronounced), use a. Examples: A horse, a house.
When the h is silent, use an. Example: An honest man. The h is pronounced in hereditary -- a hereditary disease).
Would it be possible to use "one" instead of a / an?

B) If their children can suffer from one hereditary disease...(If you are contrasting/comparing one disease to another you can use one, but don't generally substitute one for a/an).
