teahcer, help me plz

what is the difference between living in a city or a country

i love in london, does that mean i live in a city, but as we all know that a country is formed by different cities, so we live in city and country at the same time, if that's true, then where does the difference come from ?? why do people always have discussion about living in cities or countries???

second question,

when we pick up the phone, if the person on the other side wants to speak to me ( matin chen )

A: May I speak to Martin Chen

ME: Yes, this is he

why do we use " HIS " in this context ???

this is she , this is he

why not

this is her, this is him

last question

when we refer to different centuries,

it is correct to say

in the 60's

in the 1960's

in the beginning/mid/late 60's

in the 16th century, means 1600-1699 ???

and about people from different ages

people in their 20s' / 20's ??? means when they are between 20-29 or 21-29 ??

or can any of you give me some website for me to have a look at about this ?????

thanks a lot.

what is the difference between living in a city or a country.

I live in London, does that mean I live in a city, but as we all know that a country is formed by different cities, so we live in city and country at the same time, if that's true, then where does the difference come from ?? why do people always have discussion about living in cities or countries???

(You live in London. You live in the city of London. At the same time, you live in England, a country. A country has many cities. If you say, "I live in England," I do not know which city you live in. "Country" has another meaning. It means outside a city, that is, in the countryside. The question, "Do you live in the city or in the country?" is asking if you are a city dweller or if you have a home in the countryside).

second question,

when we pick up the phone, if the person on the other side wants to speak to me ( Martin Chen )

A: May I speak to Martin Chen

ME: Yes, this is he

why do we use " THIS " in this context ???
(It means, "I, Martin Chen, am this/the person who is speaking").

this is she , this is he

why not

this is her, this is him
(The verb be (is, am, are, etc) does not take the objective case (him, her, etc.) It takes a subjective complement/completion which is in the subjective case (he, I, etc)).

last question

when we refer to different centuries decades,

it is correct to say

in the 60's (yes).

in the 1960's (yes).

in the /beginning of the/early/mid/late/ 60's (OK).

in the 16th century, means 1600-1699 ??? (No. The first century was 0 - 99. The second century was 100 - 200. The 16th century was 1500-1599. The 20th century was 1900 - 1999. Actually, there was some controversary about the beginning of this century. Some people said January 1, 2000, some said January 1, 2001. I think most people accepted January 1, 2000 as the beginning of the 21st century.

and about people from different ages

people in their 20s' / 20's ??? means when they are between 20-29 or 21-29 ?? (20 to 29).
