Sentence (1) is not well formed, and requires the article a to complete the phrase.
Few can be tricky. Here are some examples of usage:
Few days are as rainy as this. (not very many individual days)
A few days are as rainy as this. (some days)
Quite a few days are as rainy as this. (many days)
