Thank you in advance1. Dorothy was hauled over the coals by her mother for arriving late. [OK. This is an informal idiom.]

2. Pending the legal expertise*, the prosecution is waiting with indicting a to indict councilor Anderson on taking a bribe from a local businessman.
I can't tell what you intend with [i]Pending the legal expertise. "Pending" generally takes an activity or event, not a term like "expertise".

3. "It took a year to bring the defendant to the court and another two to arrive at the sentence - it challenges efficiency of the judiciary" said one of the injured party's attorneys.

4. The period in which countries began extricating themselves from the communist yoke is called the fall of nations.

5-1. I want it done by morning. [OK.]
5-2. I want it be done by morning. [No.]
5-3. I want it to be done by morning. [OK.]

6. The last operational Chernobyl's block at Chernobyl was closed [on the 15th of December of 2000/in 2000, on December 15th/]. The whole world heaved a sigh of relief. Let's hope that this inglorious chapter of mankind's history was closed permanently. [See changes. Otherwise OK.]

7. The inscription below the image says: "The surgical treatment of the thyroid cancer consists in removing the [infected/attacked affected] gland in such a way as to prevent metastases. This is the only way that gives a chance of healing; the patient however, for the remainder of his life, must take thyroid hormones."
-- I think the singular "metastasis" fits better, but the writer might have the plural in mind. It would sound smoother to move "for the remainder of his life" to the end of the sentence.

Dear Pete.
Would the usage of "pending" be fine, if I should substitute expertise with evaluation? If not I'd appreciate your help with it.

Thank you in advance
Best

BestYes; the following is fine:

- Pending the legal evaluation, the prosecution is waiting …

If this is the first mention of a legal evaluation in the discourse, omit "the" before "legal". In that case, you can either replace "the" with "a", or you can omit the determiner altogether.
