Hello,guys,
What does the phrase" to raid the biscuit tin" mean?
Thanks a lot! Raid = attack, plunder, loot.
Biscuit tin (British)/cookie jar (American) = a lucrative source.
The analogy is a child stealing biscuits/cookies from a container. "Raid the biscuit tin" can have this literal meaning, or figuratively, "raid the biscuit tin" = taking funds or other benefits, probably illegally. A common saying is, "caught with his/her hand in the cookie jar," for example, in an accounting fraud.
