.
Just as we identify other clauses vs phrases: a clause has a subject and verb (one or both of which may be implicit); a phrase does not. A noun clause acts as a noun, as does a noun phrase:
Noun phrases: My big old battered fedora is my favorite head covering.
Noun clause: Standing on one's head is a healthy activity.
.
I can't find the subject or predicate in the noun-clause example above. Let me suggest an alternative:
- What I want for dinner is a bowl of pho.
The underlined part is the noun clause; it has subject "I" and verb "want". The whole clause is the subject of the main sentence.
Another example, this one with the noun clause as the object:
I hope that she comes home soon.
