Hi.
In my dictionary, the meaning of "china" (adj) and "porcelain" are almost the same. So, do they both refer to one thing?

Thanks.The use of these terms can be confusing. When we're talking about dishes, "China" refers to a very high quality, thin, slightly translucent material and the dishes that are made from it. "Porcelain" was originally a synonym for that, and it is still often used that way. However, now "porcelain" is also used for cheaper, lower quality but similar material and the dishes made from it. So the answer is that the words can mean the same thing, but "porcelain" can also mean other things.
"Porcelain" is also used for the very high quality ceramic layer applied to metal in certain decorative items and in artificial crowns for teeth.
