dear friends
can you tell me the differnces between look like and look alike?
and how to explain the usage of " in"
1 what kind of things are important in a friend?
2i dont think differences are important in a friendship
the last one
1 i like you more than (he)
2 i am a little taller than( her)
3 my best friend is quieter than (she is)
why there are so many forms after "than"
best wishes

Let's try:
Bill looks like Tom, so Bill and Tom look alike. The moon looks like green cheese, so the moon and green cheese look alike.:D

In has many meanings, all similar, but different enough that you ought to look up the word in your dictionary.
In your sentences, in means having the function of. So, in this sentenceWhat kind of things are important in a friend?
in a friend means for having as the function of a friend.

Finally, than can be a preposition or a conjunction. As a preposition, it is used for simple comparisons of one thing to another, such as A is more (or less) something than B.Mary is a faster runner than Jane.
Jimmy weighs less than me.
Rocks are heavier than feathers.
Note that when we use a personal pronoun, it must be in objective case (me, him, her, us,....)
As a conjunction, than links two clauses. It is used to compare more complex thoughts, such as thought A is more or less something than thought B.Ken drank less milk than Ann did.
I can peel more potatoes in one hour than Fred can in two days.
Susan read more books than Karen.
The thoughts following than in these sentences are more complex, and are almost complete sentences.
Sometimes, as in Susan read more books than Karen, we leave off the last word or two of the clause. English speakers do this all the time, and it is grammatically OK. The full clause would be:Susan read more books than Karen did read books.
Yeck! That's an awful sounding sentence. No wonder we don't want to say it. But we might say did. Look at Ken drank less milk than Ann did.
I hope this helps.
