if you allow me..I can give you a short explanation of this....You name it : you give it a name ...<ok> it's yours : it's not mine, it's yours...
To sum up ' cos you give it a name it's yours '..That's what i see...All the best...Hope it's ok

I see Eldorado's point that the phrase shows that the thing has no value...

The way I've seen the expression used, 'not a thing' usually means 'nothing' or 'nothing at all'

Here is an example ...

A: What do you have planned for tonight?
B: Not a thing, not a single thing.

Or

People may point out that others (or something) may have no value to them by saying, "It/She/He doesn't mean a thing to me."

... that that person or thing means nothing to them.

As Eldorado mentioned, by saying this phrase you are giving the other person the power to claim something.

This phrase is usually said to give the other person the option to name the thing they want, their wish or their desire so that you can fulfill it for them.

"You name it, it's yours"= Tell me what you want and I will give it to you... all you have to do is say what you want.
