Hi all.

Could you please explain for me how I do need to write correctly?

There are two flowers: red and blue.
Is it correct when I am writing "please take a look at THE red flower" or "please take a look at flower red"?
Actually the second one interests me.

Thanks in advance.

Hi Mormat,

The general rule is that the article 'the' is used with definite nouns (a specific object that both the person speaking and the listener know). Use 'a' or 'an' for new information (the first time you mention a noun) and use 'the' for old information (the next time you make a reference to that noun).

A summary of the rules for when to use articles can be found here...
http://esl.about.com/cs/beginner/f/f_athe.htm

As for the placement of the adjective, red...

The rule is... "In English, adjectives normally occur before the nouns they modify."

So,

Please take a look at THE red flower.

... is the correct way to phrase the sentence.

And I think it is interesting that the second phrase interests you :) . Is this how it would have been stated in your language?

oishii, thank you very much for answer.

In my language (Ukrainian, Russian) word order is not strict, so I can mix words in a sentence as I want. We use so-called "cases" to define relations between words.
