Hello there!
Could anyone of you please suggest any changes in the following presentation speech. Thanks.
OK.
Good Afternoon everyone.
My name is XYZ and I welcome you to my presentation on Environmental reporting.
Firstly, I am going to talk about - why we selected this particular topic for our dissertation. Then I will highlight - why petroleum industry is particularly important when it comes to environmental reporting. Moving on then to the identification of base papers / articles. At this stage I will highlight the significance of selecting these particular articles. Next – I will talk about research gap and our rationale behind how we can contribute / add value to the existing literature. Finally, I will spend a couple of minutes on our research question i.e. the hypothesis and conclude the presentation.
I will of course take any questions you may have in the end.
OK.
Thesis Topic Selection
1.What is environmental reporting?
The voluntary public disclousre of information about a company’s environmental performance over a specified period, usually a financial year.
The company’s environmental performance includes :
(a) its impacts on the environment,
(b) its performance in managing those impacts and its contribution to ecologically sustainable development.
So far, the IASB in the UK and the FASB in the US (Standard setting bodies) haven’t promulgated any international standards in relation to Environmental reporting.
Therefore, it forms part of your Voluntary reporting.
Companies have a choice. They can either say – OK we want to give a report to the shareholders or we don’t want to report to the shareholders.
But it is highly likely that the companies would. This is a recent trend actually. Companies will do so in order to attract – so called your ‘Green Investors’.
2.It is a very topical issue in the sense that –
It directly links the environmental performance of the company to the issues such as global warming, climate changes, etc.
3.Addresses Research Gap :
I will come back to it when I will discuss our Research Question / Hypothesis.
Industry Selection
1. Increased Media Attention / Scrutiny:
2. Increased Public Awareness :
Show of hands - if you are aware of the Corrib Project in county Mayo?
See what I mean.
There is no need to expand this point further.
3. Consequences of Environmental Disasters
To illustrate this point, let me show you a couple of pictures.
Pictures speak louder than words..
4. Financial Implications & Shareholder Value :
= Basically, the different financial impacts are due to the unique profiles of each company.
= Various costs incurred = that will impact the bottom line profit.
Now,moving on to the Base Papers.
We have identified 3 articles published in a peer reviewed journal as our base papers
As you can see here, the first two papers. These are our core papers.
Our research methodology is entirely based upon these two papers.
Thanks a mil for your help.
