I was just thinking about the expression "a sickness of the soul". Does it seem outdated and melodramatic to you or can it have real application in a modern world?

For example can we really say there is, as Michael Moore states, an identifiable and damaging sickness in the American soul?

"You may think he's making movies about the US health system, guns or the Iraq war, but Michael Moore says the real subject of his films is the sickness in the American soul, writes Stephanie Bunbury."
