Default The word Oak

Hello,

I am thinking of a name for a business, I like oak trees and thinking about using Oak and append the company description at the end, but I'm not sure if that would be a proper usage of the word oak.

Is "Oak" the same thing as an "Oak Tree" ?

I would prefer to use only "Oak" to keep it short, but would "oak" without the "tree" mean something else like the type of wood and not the type of tree?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

Oak Enterprises, Oak Finance, Red Oak Consultants, and Black Oak Trading Co. are all good kinds of names that do not suggest wood. You might include a drawing or silhouette of a tree on your letterhead, logo, fliers, and business cards.

When thinking of a name for your business, it's wise to consider how that name will be heard over the telephone. A name which makes perfect sense when written or when spoken to those who know may not be easily understood by strangers.

Find a way to call up a few people who have never heard of you and use the name you are thinking of. If no one asks you to spell the name, you've got a winner. If, however, you wind up having to explain or spell the name, you should reconsider.

The word Oak, by itself, will probably lose the final K sound, and you'll be saying, "Oak- like the tree" all the time. If the name includes a clue, like Oak Tree (or some of the other examples suggested by others), you should be fine.
